Press/Video: Millie Bobby Brown splits kneecap, will miss MTV Movie & TV Awards

Don’t expect any Eleven sightings at Monday’s MTV Movie & TV Awards.

Millie Bobby Brown, who stars as the Eggo-loving heroine on Netflix’s Stranger Things, revealed to fans on Instagram Friday that she’s split her kneecap, marking her first-ever broken bone. As a result, the 14-year-old actress is at home resting up and won’t be attending the awards ceremony.

The breakout series is nominated for a total of seven awards this year, including one for Brown’s performance and another for Best Kiss (shared between her and co-star Finn Wolfhard). Luckily, the rest of the Stranger Things crew — Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas), Finn Wolfhard (Mike), Sadie Sink (Max), and Noah Schnapp (Will) — will be on hand to accept any awards on the show’s behalf.

“I hope Gaten and Caleb, Finn, Sadie, and Noah have the best time and I love them so dearly,” said Brown in the video. “I wish you guys the best and I’m sending my luck with you, and I’ll be there in spirit.”

Brown won the Best Actor in a Show trophy at last year’s MTV Movie & TV Awards, meaning she could be a back-to-back winner if she triumphs in her category this year.

News of her injury comes days after Brown quit Twitter after being made the subject of a variety of homophobic memes. Sometimes posted along with the hashtag #TakeDownMillieBobbyBrown, they falsely attributed hateful LGBTQ comments and quotes to her, leading the actress to delete her account. Brown does have a second verified Twitter account, @Milliestopshate. Though it hasn’t seen activity since December 2017, her social media bio reads: “I want this account to share love and positivity. Let’s stop bullying.”

Press: ‘Stranger Things’ Books Set For Fall Debut From Penguin Random House

Penguin Random House will partner with Netflix on a worldwide publishing deal for books based on the critically acclaimed Netflix original series Stranger Things, Deadline has learned.

The first two titles, set for a release this fall, will be a behind-the-scences companion book and a hardcover gift book for young readers.

Those two books will be followed next spring by a Stranger Things prequel novel, written by author Gwenda Bond, about Eleven’s mother and the MKUltra program. Additional titles for both adults and young readers will arrive later in 2019.

This fall’s companion book will be titled Stranger Things: World Turned Upside Down: The Official Behind-The-Scenes Companion. The as-yet-untitled gift book will offer “advice, wisdom, and warnings from the Stranger Things world,” says the publisher.

The Stranger Things books will initially release under the U.S. and British Commonwealth publishing teams of Del Rey Books, Random House Children’s Books, Cornerstone Publishing, and Penguin Random House Children’s UK, with additional territories and imprints to follow.

Audiobook editions will be published by Penguin Random House Audio.

The fall arrival of the first two books might tide over fans of the Duffer Brothers’ supernatural Netflix hit until Season 3 arrives, most likely sometime early-ish 2019. All that’s known so far about the new season is that Francesca Reale, Cary Elwes and Jake Busey are joining the show, that Reale will play a popular lifeguard at the Hawkins Community Pool who becomes the centerpiece of a dark mystery, and that Elwes will portray Mayor Kline and Busey will be Bruce, a journalist for the The Hawkins Post.

Video: Stranger Things 3 Now In Production via Netflix

It’s officially official: Stranger Things 3 filming is underway. We here at Collider broke the news last week that production on Stranger Things Season 3 was set to begin on Monday, April 23rd, and indeed now Netflix has released a video confirming the start of production, teasing the return of familiar faces, and also offering a peek at a couple of the new cast members.

You won’t get any time period or costume reveals here though, as the video was shot at the table read for Stranger Things 3 and thus everyone’s in regular 2018 attire. But it’s impossible to ignore just how much these kids have grown in the year since they shot Stranger Things 2, and it’ll be interesting to see if there’s a more significant time jump to account for the sprouting adolescent cast members.

We also get a tiny tease of new Season 3 additions Jake Busey, Cary Elwes, and Maya Hawke, who will shake things up even further in Hawkins, while new Season 2 cast members Dacre Montgomery and Sadie Sink are confirmed to be back.

The production schedule of Season 3 will mirror that of the first two seasons, as the scripts for the eight-episode season aren’t yet complete. So showrunners The Duffer Brothers will be directing the first two episodes, then executive producer Shawn Levy will direct episodes three and four while the Duffer Brothers work to put the finishing touches on the final scripts. I’m mighty curious to see what other directors are filling out the roster, but I imagine we’ll find out soon enough.

While the end of Stranger Things is finite and has been teased before, the Netflix series won’t be concluding with Season 3. There will at the very least be a Season 4, and possibly one more season after that to wrap up this self-contained story.

A Stranger Things 3 premiere date hasn’t yet been revealed, but Stranger Things 2 premiered about a year after filming began—although that season had 10 episodes instead of 8. Stranger Things 1 premiered eight months after filming began, but the Duffer Brothers admitted it was a mad dash to get that season complete. So we’re probably looking at a Stranger Things 3 premiere date anywhere between December and April or so. We’ll probably get a firm date sometime later this year.

For now, check out the Stranger Things 3 teaser below.

Millie was in attendance and won at the 2018 Teen Choice Awards on Saturday. We was wearing a kick-ass shirt that had the names of the 17 children who died at Parkland last month. Things like this further cement me being a fan of Millie and honestly, bravo. Enjoy the photos. More to come.
