Press/Video: Millie Bobby Brown Honors Parkland Victims, March For Our Lives At Kids’ Choice Awards

Millie Bobby Brown used her appearance at the Kids’ Choice Awards on Saturday night to make a powerful statement about gun violence.

The “Stranger Things” actress wore a denim shirt by Calvin Klein that had the names of the 17 victims of the Parkland, Florida, shooting written on the back in white.

The front of the shirt said “NEVER AGAIN” just above the pocket, while the back had “March for Our Lives” written on it.

Calvin Klein also posted an Instagram of Brown’s outfit on Saturday. The brand said in a statement that it “applauds her, #MarchForOurLives and all those who support its mission in shaping a better future.”

“Thank you so much for this award and to Nickelodeon for bringing us all together. As we saw a moment ago, the March for Our Lives demonstrations that took place all over the world today have inspired me and impacted us all in one way or another,” she said.

“I’m privileged to have a voice that can be heard, one that I can use to hopefully make a positive difference and help influence change,” the actress continued. “OK, so there’s an amazing support, love and kindness in this room right now, and I want to encourage everyone to embrace it and to pass it on.”

“For the angels among us, your spirit lives on,” the actress said as she wrapped up her speech. “This is for you.”

The “Stranger Things” star has been a vocal supporter of the movement and posted about it on Friday, the day before the march.

March For Our Lives is an opportunity for us all to stand in solidarity against gun violence. No child, teen, parent or teacher should be afraid to walk into their school or classroom. This is our chance to be HEARD! This is our chance to MAKE A DIFFERENCE. This world needs to be filled with love, kindness and support of one another. No more fear, no more hurt, no more shootings, no more GUNS. To everyone participating in tomorrow’s March all over the country, you have my love, support, strength and encouragement! #MARCHFOROURLIVES #NEVERAGAIN @marchforourlives

Press: Stranger Things executive producer: season 3 is ‘legitimately creepy’

Season 3 of Stranger Things won’t be hitting Netflix until 2019, but on Sunday night the cast and crew hit the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood for the show’s PaleyFest panel to give fans a taste of what’s to come.

When EW inquired about the upcoming season on the red carpet prior to the event, executive producer Shawn Levy said, “It’s very much the Stranger Things I think people know and love. It’s big and spooky. Season 3 has legitimately creepy moments and events, but it’s incredibly warm and character-based because at the end of the day, I think that’s what people love most about Stranger Things.”

Unlike the previous seasons which took place during the school year, season 3 will be entirely set in the summer: think bonfires, the Fourth of July, and young love. “Mike and Eleven and are going strong, so that’s a relationship that continues, and same with Mad Max and Lucas. But again, they’re like 13- or 14-year-old kids, so what does romance mean at that stage of life? It can never be simple and stable relationships and there’s fun to that instability,” Levy told The Hollywood Reporter.

Although filming for the next installment of the Netflix breakout hit hasn’t started yet, Levy confirmed during the panel discussion that new episodes are coming soon. “We are going back to work this month,” Levy said.

If you’re already planning your sleep schedule (or rather, lack-of-sleep schedule) for the next season’s drop of episodes, feel free to justify staying up all night: Levy says he’s in favor of the pro-binge approach. “The way [Stranger Things creators the Duffer brothers] build these episodes, it is very much a suspense-driven show. So if you don’t want to click through to the next episode, we haven’t done our job.”

Press: ‘Stranger Things’ EP Shawn Levy: “We’re Super Excited” For Season 3; Cast Looks Back On Season 2

While plotlines for Season 3 of the Netflix show are largely under wraps for now, Stranger Things EP Shawn Levy said at PaleyFest on Sunday, “We are going back to work next month, and we’re super excited.” Judging by the legions of screaming fans in the audience, he’s not alone in that feeling.

The show, created by sibling team Matt and Ross Duffer, follows the supernatural adventures of a group of kids in 80s-era fictional small town Hawkins, and has been an enormous hit with audiences and critics alike. But rather than feed the Season 3 hysteria and reveal any spoilers, Levy and the show’s cast used the panel discussion to recall some favorite moments of Season 2, with Millie Bobby Brown, who plays the telekinetically-gifted Eleven, leading the charge.

“Season 1 was obviously very different,” she said, “because I had no clue who Eleven was, and I was just being introduced to the weirdest character on Earth.” But by the second season, she’d found her feet. “I kind of had that freedom of saying, ‘I don’t think Eleven would do that,’” she said, adding that the set had to have “double security” the second time around.

Levy recalled the strangeness of returning for Season 2, after finding themselves besieged by attention. “I remember us kind of huddling up and saying, ‘OK, so the world knows about us now. We’re just going to hunker down and trust the brothers,’ and it became a willful tuning out of all that noise.”

Something that came through in the discussion was the family-level affection the cast has for each other. David Harbour, whose role of Jim Hopper meant sharing a lot of one-on-one scenes with Brown, said he’d seen a new side of himself through getting to know her – an experience he called “a gift”.

“I don’t have a child,” he said, “so I don’t know what that’s like, and all my experiences of love have been romantic, or my parents, or my dog, so this was an unlocking of me as a human being; of a love that was human, but was pure in a way where you’d take a bullet for someone.”

“To be honest it was very challenging and we went through so many different emotions,” Brown pointed out. “We get angry at each other. We’re like father and daughter…those scenes were so raw and real.”

Those genuine friendships among the cast are, Levy said, a big reason for the show’s success. “We chose actors who are just authentic humans,” he said, “and it immediately resulted in the chemistry you see on screen. I think that’s why so many people connected to the show.”

Season 2 newcomer Sadie Sink found her confident, skateboarding character Max Mayfield really resonated with fans. “I had this one girl who was kind of falling into that world of, ‘I need to wear make-up, I need these clothes,’” she said. “Then she saw Max and thought, ‘Oh Max is confident and she doesn’t need to be someone who isn’t her, she can just be confident in her own skin.’ That was the most rewarding part for me.”

While Sean Astin claimed his Season 2 high point was, “I got to kiss Winona Ryder,” he added that he’d been satisfied with his character Bob’s death. “There was a moment in the first episode where I went to the Duffers and I said, ‘Please, when you kill me in the next episode or whenever, please let this guy do something heroic.’” Fortunately, Bob was allowed to save the day before meeting his end. “Bob got to know Basic,” Astin said, “and thwarted the enemy with a rudimentary knowledge of 1983 computers.”

It also emerged that 80s authenticity is a very serious business on set. The audience screamed in delight when Brown said, “They give us underwear. What are they called?”

“Tightey whities,” her cast mate Caleb McLaughlin chimed in.

But of course, educating the younger generation on the magic of 80s nostalgia extended well beyond wardrobe, Levy explained. “The Duffer brothers made basically a fake trailer of Stranger Things from movies that exist. That became required viewing for the kids.”

Brown said of first watching this 80s montage, “I was so weirded out when I watched it. I was like, ‘What is this?’ I was so confused. There was a shark and a ghost.” Brown said it included parts of Stand By Me – a fact that brought a smile to PaleyFest moderator and Stand By Me child star Wil Wheaton’s face.

Press: ‘Stranger Things’ Cast Scores Major Salary Increases Ahead Of Season 3

Stranger Things has been a runaway success for Netflix, the first homegrown series produced by the streaming platform to hit it out of the park. And now the stars of the 1980s supernatural drama are sharing in the windfall with major salary bumps going into Season 3.

While actors cast as series regulars on a TV show almost always have long-term deals, it bas become a tradition for the casts of successful series to renegotiate their contracts after the second season after receiving one-time bonuses ahead of Season 2. That is what happened with the main players on Stranger Things. I hear that the lead child and adult stars of the show, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo and Caleb McLaughlin, Winoina Ryder and David Harbour, all have reached or are finalizing agreements that will see their pay increase significantly.

The rise is especially dramatic for the young stars who were mostly newcomers before being cast in Stranger Things, reportedly pulling in about $30,000 an episodes the first two seasons. I hear their per-episode fee will go up to over $150,000 an episode.

Brown, who emerged as the breakout star of Stranger Things, is believed to have landed a bigger raise than her young counterparts.

Ryder and Harbour, who were established actors with sizable resumes, started higher and I hear will remain ahead of their younger co-stars, including Brown. I hear their new salaries are north of $200,000.

Netflix declined comment.

In addition to a ratings mega hit, Stranger Things has been a licensing bonanza for Netflix with a slew of deals for Stranger Things-branded merchandise.

Stranger Things is expected to go into production on an eight-episode Season 3 next month. It will see the storyline jump ahead a year and will also introduce new forces of evil.

Going into Season 3, Stranger Things has promoted Priah Ferguson to a series regular and has added Maya Hawke as a new series regular playing a new character.
